The Epstein files, when did the Trump administration have its holy shit moment? You’ll recall that Pam Bondi, the attorney general said they were going to put out all of the information they had about the sexual predator. Then they went down to the White House to meet with Trump. And clearly at some point they said, wait a minute, God, we can’t put this stuff out. Why? It’s really actually fun to watch the White House and the Trump apologist on Capitol Hill and on cable television, Fox and even some on CNN offer the excuses.
Number one, they say, well, look, even if the House votes as they’re going to, to force the Justice Department to release all those files, the Senate will never do it. I’ll tell you this, if over 300 House members, including half or more of the Republican caucus vote to release those files, there ain’t no way in the world that John Thune can sit on that forever. The Senate will have to act, ask the Senator from Ohio who’s up for reelection or for election next year, ask Susan Collins.
Secondly, they say, well, look, I mean, were interviews and, and Ghislaine Maxwell said Trump didn’t do anything. Does anyone believe Ghislaine Maxwell about anything? And the Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanch, went to interview her. My almost eight-year-old grandson could have done a better job because he didn’t care. All he wanted to do was to come back and have her say put out a transcript that said Trump didn’t do anything. Of course, she’s trying to get a pardon or a computation. So it was really an embarrassment and it was totally meaningless.
Third, they said, look, if there’s bad stuff in there, the Biden administration would have released it. First, they didn’t have all the information then. Secondly, there was an ongoing trial still of Maxwell and an appeal. It would have been really illegal to put that stuff out. And whatever you think of Merrick Garland, he was a straight arrow.
So I don’t know what’s in those files, but what I do know is that there’s a reason that Trump is refusing to allow them to put it out. And it’s more than just embarrassment. He’s really beyond embarrassment. And if the things like the Access Hollywood didn’t embarrass him, there’s no little embarrassment that he couldn’t weather this time. There’s something bigger, whatever it is. And the question is, when they had that holy shit moment, what was it?
