To us it’s a sport to the people in the sport. It’s a business. It’s all about making money now at least the college players get a chance to make some money and the power to transfer to a better school or a better chance to play.

The big money gamble in college football has tarnished the game for me. I used to think these young athletes were playing their hearts out for the love of the game, the joy of being the best, the fun of playing the game. I became bored with pro football when it was all about the money. Being an older female, I have witnessed lots of sports in my time and it saddens my heart when I see a senior in high school who is the top pick in the country already driving one of those big damn trucks and it is after he signed with LSU. (I still substitute teach high school a few days a week). I'm pretty sure it wasn't bought by his family. Is this what our country has become? All about the money? Are little kids' dreams clouded by being the highest-paid recruit rather than by being the best player in the league?

Like you, I’m still hooked by the thrill of hearing the LSU band playing it's first notes of “Hold that Tiger” or watching a Saints fan dressed as a pope and the fans drowning out the other team. BTW, seeing the Saints win the last four games is delightful!

Gone are the days when we could follow a great basketball player through his four years at college, watch him improve from a talented freshman to a standout team leader. I'm a Duke fan but it doesn't matter which team I'm pulling for, it's so hard to continue to watch college basketball with one and done. I honestly don't know how the coaches find any joy in their work as the rules have changed. It's hard to be dedicated to a team when the best players come and go so quickly. When Gene Wojciechowski wrote The Last Great Game, he was focused on the coaches and the team building. But truly, that was probably one of the last great games because, as a fan, I had watched each one of those players rise to glory! ....Back to the video tape!

Try being a lifelong Lions fan. The NFL and D-1 college football are the worst of a bad bunch.
