Two men, Mark Kelly and Pete Hegseth, both served honorably in the military, Kelly in the Navy, Hegseth in the Army. After that, their stories and revelations about their character sharply diverge. Kelly was an astronaut, spent almost two months in space, worked with his wife, the former congresswoman, Gabby Giffords, who was severely wounded by a gunman. He’s worked with her on philanthropic causes.
And for the past five years, he has been a very respected United States Senator. He also is a critic of Donald Trump. Hegseth ran two veteran organizations into financial stress, was fired, was a Fox News anchor where he was seen as a heavy drinker. He was accused credibly of sexual assault. 2016, he assailed Hillary Clinton’s use of private email, said it was dangerously reckless and threatened National Security.
This year, Defense Department’s own Inspector General said, Hegseth, using a private app, revealing classified information about a planned attack, that could have endangered American forces, and that was recklessly irresponsible. So now we have the bad guy, Secretary of Defense Hegseth, trying to punish the good guy, Mark Kelly, by demoting his rank.
He’s retired but by demoting his rank. So why? What did Kelly do? He and five other congressional colleagues, all veterans, told service members they do not have to obey illegal orders. You know, that’s specifically stated in the Military Code of Conduct. So what this is all about, had nothing to do with what Kelly and his five colleagues said. It was totally understandable, justified.
What this is all about is another part of the retribution campaign of the Trump administration going after Kelly for partisan, cheap political reasons. This is what happens in a dictatorship. And when you have a fifth raider like Pete Hegseth running the defense department, we’re either already there or we’re certainly headed there.
Hegseth is an incompetent moron and should be removed from his current position. During my 13 years in the US Army I was well educated in the Code of Conduct. What Senator Kelly said was absolutely accurate. He should be applauded for his courage to speak out and not threatened.
